Installation of insertion electromagnetic flowmeters follows the following recommendations for optimal performance. A 20-diameter straight pipe is set upstream and a 10-diameter straight pipe is set downstream. Failures caused by pumps, valves and elbows require longer upstream and downstream straight pipes (40D and 20D respectively). If there is too much turbulence in the pipe, install a rectifier.

Confirm that the flow signal on the flow meter matches the flow direction in the pipe, and ensure that the electrode is perpendicular to the direction of flow. Confirm the location of the electrical connection and flow meter bracket. The probe direction must be aligned with the center of the pipe to avoid excessive local vibration of the pipe. The pipe must always be filled with liquid even if there is no flow.
